The test results showed that among public high school students, misconceptions concerning some of the basic elementary level number skills are widespread and persistent. Most students either failed to understand the given information well enough to develop a strategy, or they set up a strategy which was inappropriate to answering the given question. The recommendations given are as follows: remedial teaching, formative teaching in the classroom, correct misconceptions in textbooks, and subjectspecific pedagogy, meaning teaching approaches in the key concepts of subjects.  This book is based on courses designed for the use of elementary school teacher training institutions developed by the Mathematics Education Staff for Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia. It is composed of three units that focus on problem solving number theory, and space and measurement.

They also provide a rich source of ideas and materials for classroom teaching. Cases in Science and Mathematics Education 
This resource consists of teaching and learning materials on selected folk and common toys and games. The toys and games are selected based on their popularity, availability in the locality and cost. Each lesson includes the following: playing with the toy, making the toy, curriculum entry point, suggested activities, and scientific or mathematical explanation. The concepts and skills developed are in consonance with the Philippine Elementary Learning Competencies (PELC) and the Desired Learning Competencies (DLC). Illustrations make the lessons more understandable.  This volume is a compilation of cases that are problembased narratives of authentic teacher training and classroom situations. Each chapter of this casebook consists of a case narrative, questions for reflection and discussion and the response(s) from science and mathematics teacher educators. This book is based on the result of a study to investigate the elementary school children’s knowledge of English nontechnical words used in teacherpupil interactions and mathematics classes. The facility of each of the 385 nontechnical words in the WELS World List for each grade level (grades 4, 5 and 6) by regions (Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) and by school types (public barrio, town, and private) was determined. The report includes the test developed to measure the difficulty levels of each word. The discussion and the implications of the findings for teaching and curriculum development highlight the significance of the study in relation to the goals of science and mathematics education.
