Tendence Corporation Donates P1.4M to NISMED’s Programs

Tendence Corporation, represented by its Vice President Victoria B. Jardiolin Villa, Ph.D., donated P1, 408,080.00 to the University of the Philippines Diliman for a professional development program for elementary school Science and Mathematics teachers in seven schools in Iloilo.  The check was handed by Dr. Villa to the Director of the National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (NISMED) on 30 June 2015. NISMED will implement the program.  UP Diliman Chancellor Michael L. Tan, Ph.D., as head of the donee institution signed the Deed of Donation and Acceptance as the counterpart of Dr. Villa.  Dr. Ulep signed as a witness.

Dr. Villa is an alumna and professor of the UP College of Business Administration and is a successful businesswoman. Another company she leads, Marikina Shoe Exchange, had previously funded a teacher training program and follow-through for Science and Mathematics teachers of Commonwealth Elementary School in Quezon City through NISMED. She considers this donation a way of giving back to her alma mater and to society.

The current donation will fund a seminar-workshop in Iloilo for Science and Mathematics elementary school teachers of seven schools in Iloilo City and the District of Oton. Through the seminar-workshop, the participants will be introduced to the process of collaborative lesson research and development and to the teaching approaches of inquiry and problem solving in science and mathematics, respectively. The program also includes a follow-through for the school-based implementation of the outputs in the workshop. Faculty of UP Visayas (Iloilo) as well as of selected teacher education institutions in Iloilo will also be involved in the program. DepEd supervisors and school heads will likewiseparticipate in the seminar workshop and follow-through to ensure sustainability of the innovations to be introduced.
